Spray polyurethane foam insulation is very flammable, and cannot be left uncovered to be exposed to sparks or fire. DC315 spray applied thermal barrier has been tested to CAN/ULC-S124 and CAN/ULC-9705 and has been evaluated by the Canadian Construction Materials Centre (CCMC) to be a suitable spray foam thermal barrier in accordance to section 9 of the National Building Code (NBC) of Canada.

Yes you can use DC315 fireproofing paint as an alternative thermal and ignition barrier for spray polyurethane foam (SPF) meeting the CAN/ULC- S705.1 standard. DC315 can easily protect hard to reach places where metal covering is not practical. DC315 also beats CAN/ULC-9705 flashover standard requirements, and at an application rate of 35 mils WFT is equivalent to 16mm gypsum board.
